How About a Picnic

Go on a picnic at the park. It's fun! You don't have to get fancy. Pack some food (try some of the terrific picnic recipes below), grab a few friends, a couple of blankets to sit on, and spend an afternoon outside.

Can't get to the park? Your friends too busy? Take your picnic to the back yard or even go on your deck or patio with a good book.

Don't worry. The ants will find you!

Some picnic suggestions:

Suggestion #1: Find a shady place to set up your picnic. It can get pretty hot on a sunny summer day. Also, be sure to take along some sun screen (and use it) so nobody gets a sunburn. Bug spray is also a good idea. Be sure to get some help from an adult for these as things with chemicals like sun screen and bug spray have chemicals that might be dangerous to kids.

Suggestion #2: Take a frisbee or a ball to toss when you're finished with your picnic. If there are lots of people at the picnic, play a game everyone can play. For example, have a three-legged race.

Suggestion #3: Have a song fest! Print out some of BlackDog's Songs to Sing and sing the afternoon away.

Suggestion #4: Take a towel or a large cloth (one that your folks say is okay to use!) so everybody at the picnic will have a place to sit or lie down. Sometimes after a picnic, people like to take a nap.

Suggestion #5: Here's something important: Don't leave your house for your picnic without telling your folks what you are planning. Get permission first, always!

You can make your picnic as simple or as complex as you like. Whatever you do, picnics are great!
