The Magic Paper Trick
Tools:
One 3 x 5-inch index card or simlar size piece of paper. One pair of scissors.
The Effect:
Hold up the small index card or piece of paper and say, "Do you believe
that I can put my head through a hole in this 3 x 5-inch index card?"
Amaze your friends and astonish your family by doing it!

Step 1
Fold the file card in half lengthwise.

Step 2
Make 13 partial cuts widthwise through the folded side of the card.
Cut to within a quarter inch of the edges of the card.

Step 3
Turn the card around and cut toward the fold. Again, cut to within a
quarter inch of the edges of the card.
|
|
Step 4
Very carefully open the card and cut lengthwise along the fold.
Do not cut the two end sections.
|
|
Step 5
Gently stretch the card as far as it will go and put it over your head!

The Secret:
The secret to this trick comes from a branch of mathematics called topology.
It teaches that figures can be stretched without changing their area.
