Golf tees (or toothpicks or match sticks for legs)
Cardboard cut into triangles (for ears)
Tape (to tape the ears and legs onto the bottle)
Make a pig form by taping cardboard triangles onto the end of the bottle near the
cap and taping toothpicks or golf tees onto the bottle for legs and a tail.
Mix flour and water in a large bowl (2 cups of each is a good amount to start)
until it makes a smooth paste. Dip in the newspaper strips, one at a time
Remove the excess paste from your fingers and lay the coated newspaper on the pig form
to be papier mâchèd. Smooth out the wrinkles and continue to place flour-coated
newspaper over the surface until the bottle is completely covered. When the
surface has totally dried, paint your own design using acrylic or poster paint,
and decorate with craft supplies.
If a pig isn't up your alley, try making a papier mâchè ball by covering
a blown-up balloon.
Hint: Ever wonder what a piñata is made from? Papier mâchè molded around
a form! Use your imagination and make your own piñata. Make a shape from
wadded up newspaper or even balloons and remove the insides to leave the piñata hollow for
candy. Don't forget to tape something on the top of the form to hang your piñata up
when you're finished.
