Make your own gift wrapping paper: You'll need some large pieces of paper, paints,
stamps, crayons, paint brushes, or anything you like to work with to make images.
Then go crazy making wrapping paper! Pick a theme, like birthdays or a holiday,
and use colors that fit the theme. For example, you could stamp lots of green Christmas
trees on your paper and then paint in the tree decorations. Let your creations dry, roll
them up, and when a special occasion comes up, you're all set with wrapping paper.
Here's a tip: Newspapers have some paper left over on the end of a roll when
the paper has been printed, and they're usually happy to give it away. So, check
with your local newspaper office first.
Here's another tip: If you don't have stamps, you can make them. Try using an
apple cut in 1/2. Paint the cut part of the apple with some red paint and stamp it
on your paper to make some very cute apple-shaped images. Paint in leaves and a stem
and you'll have some terrific gift wrapping paper. You can also make stamps from
sponges cut into shapes, or even a potato cut in 1/2 with an image carved out of it.
Kids: Be sure to get help cutting things out!
Yet another tip: When you make your paper, at the same time make some cards to
match. For example, cut out a piece of paper twice the size of one of the images
you're making. Fold it in 1/2 and stamp one image on the front. You can write
a special message to go with the gift when you use the paper you've made. It's the
perfect card to go with your gift!
