Vacation Scrapbook

Capture your summer memories with a vacation scrapbook:  You're going to be very busy this summer having a terrific time, and you'll want to remember it all.  If you make your scrapbook now, you'll have a place to keep everything together along the way.  It'll also help when you get back to school and are asked to write a story describing what you did on your summer vacation.

You don't have to have a fancy book.  Start with an empty spiral notebook.  Add pictures, ticket stubs, drawings, maps, and other things you collect while you're out of school this summer.  Either glue or tape them to the page.  For small things, you can fold the page up and tape it to make a pocket.  Be sure to label the front of the scrapbook and decorate it any way you like.  If you fill it up, just start a second one.  Scrapbooks are a great way to remember what a fun summer you are having!

Tips:
  • Begin by adding a title to each page.  It doesn't have to be a fancy title.  Don't forget to include the date.  For example, "Visit to Aunt Molly - June 2000."
  • Start with the basics, especially dates and full names.  Write this information under or around your photos or other things you glue into your scrapbook.
  • Continue by adding some basic information, such as where the events took place, where the tickets came from, and why an item is there.
  • Make a new page for each different even you want to remember.  It can get confusing if you try to put too much on one page.
  • If you have room on your page, you can complete the page by adding some personal thoughts, emotions, poems, or quotes.  If you are having trouble, keep it simple.  For example, "Everyone said they had a great time at the party."
  • Remember that your story is the most important part of preserving the past and the present for the future.  Don't neglect it with too few words!
