Preparation
The ideal combination of fruit for a salad is dictated
by the season. Select the freshest fruit available in
a variety of colors, shapes, sizes, and textures for
an interesting mix. Bananas are a great addition,
slice them just before serving so they hold their
color and texture. The fruit suggested in this recipe
can be cut with a small knife if young people are
helping.
Wash the strawberries and trim off the green hull.
Depending on their size, slice the berries in halves or
quarters and place the pieces in a bowl. Wash and
dry the grapes, leave them whole, and add to the
strawberries.
Trim off the ends of the kiwis and peel off the brown
skin with a vegetable peeler. Slice the fruit into
quarters like a lemon or into wheels like an orange slice
and add to the mix.
Sprinkle the brown sugar and vanilla over the fruit to
add extra sweetness and flavor. Peel, slice, and add
the banana to the salad, mix well, and serve right
away.
